Good afternoon,
As you know, last night Westford experienced another profound tragedy. I wanted to take this time to update you on how we handled this here at Crisafulli today.
This morning, our internal Crisis Team met to discuss a plan as to how we can best be prepared to support any students or staff who may be in need of assistance. If you feel your son/daughter may need additional support, please send your child's classroom teacher an email and cc me, Sharon Kennelly and Sara Leef.
Teachers will not be talking about what happened with children as a class. I would ask that you encourage your son/daughter to approach an adult privately if he/she needs support during the school day. Please let them know they are safe in school and that there are adults in the building who are available to support them.
We did ask teachers to talk in general terms with students and provide the same message regarding gossiping and rumor spreading that was sent last week after Tuesday's incident. The important message we asked them to impart was the power of words and their impact on others.
Superintendent Olsen's words during this morning's press conference really resonated with me. He spoke of the family of the Westford Public Schools and that we are all profoundly saddened by the loss of one of our own. He stated that we would work together in a kind, caring, compassionate and supportive way to work through the loss of a member of this community who will not be forgotten.
